THE THIRTEEN HUMAN RIGHTS

The thirteen HUMAN RIGHTS FOR KIDS that are the focus of KIDS FOR GLOBAL PEACE are set forth in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) which is a human rights treaty setting out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of all children. The Convention defines a child as any human being under the age of eighteen, unless the age of majority is attained earlier under a state's own domestic legislation.

    The thirteen HUMAN RIGHTS FOR KIDS include:

  • #4 - The Right to Have Parents (Articles 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 18, 20, 21)
  • #5 - The Right to Have an Adequate Standard of Living (Articles 24, 25, 26, 27, 31, 39)
  • #6 - The Right to Be Protected from All Harm (Articles 11, 19, 20, 22, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36. 37, 38)
  • #7 - The Right to Be Informed and Educated (Articles 13, 17, 28, 29)
  • #8 - The Right to Have Thoughts and Beliefs (Article 13, 14)
  • #9 - The Right to Express Feelings and Opinions (Articles 12, 13)
  • #10 – The Right to Have Privacy (Article 16)
  • #11 - The Right to Associate with Others (Article 15)
  • #12 – The Right to be Part of a Culture, or Religion (Article 13, 30, 31)
  • #13 – The Right to Be Treated Justly (Article 37, 39, 40)
Human Rights come with responsibility. This means that children who want to retain and assert their rights have the responsibility to respect the rights of other children. In addition, they must do whatever they can to encourage and help other children to:

  • acknowledge their rights,
  • accept their rights, and
  • live in ways that their rights entitle them to live.
